The Life Lesson
of Wabi Sabi
The Wabi-Sabi philosophy is incorporated
into each custom, hurricane wood table I build
So what is Wabi Sabi? It is the Japanese philosophy that everything is in a state of change, growth and decay.
It is everything that today’s sleek, mass-produced, fake wood culture isn’t.
It’s real, solid, aged wood. Not flawless, mind numbing perfection.
It is the appreciation of old, distinguished and reliable versus new cheap and disposable.
Wabi-sabi understands the raw beauty of a gray, isolated, cold, windy beach.
It is the elegance of a decrepit wood shed that still keeps tools.
It celebrates cracks and crevices and holes and fading -
and all the other marks that time, weather and use leave behind.
To discover wabi-sabi is to see the singular beauty in something we all innately know...
There is no substitute for quality.
